My Thoughts on The Lorax

On March 19, I viewed a movie called The Lorax, which is the name of a character whose image is displayed on the Windward Mall IHOP advertisement above. The film takes the original, whimsical tale and turns it into a comedic musical related to today's environmental issues. As its own story, the movie is appropriately appealing for families to watch. However, its insistence on making it relevant to today causes a slight disconnection from the book's spirit. I think that the inherent manaʻo of the movie involves a sense of caring about one's surroundings. In order to make the world a better place, people need to care about how responsive the world is to human actions, both good and bad. This message corresponds with the fourth quarter project because the purpose of the project is to improve the school through the well-intentioned actions of its students.
